Drawing on the Litho stone part one.

My goal this week is to print on a large litho stone that will allow for a 22" X 30" impression.

The process itself is a laborious one, requiring you to grind the stone surface so that it is completely flat. This way your image will print evenly when it is sent through the lithography press.

I have been a plein air artist (in the sense that I work from direct observation). So, stone lithography presents a challenge for me ( I can't exactly take the stone out to a bar) and a new way of thinking about working as an artist. Here are some images of the stone I am working on, and the beginning of my image which is based on the sketches from San Xavier.
